What is an agent for service of process?

West Virginia uses the term "agent for service of process" where most states say "registered agent." The role is identical: a designated individual or entity that receives legal documents, government notices, and official correspondence on behalf of your registered business. The West Virginia Secretary of State requires every LLC, corporation, and nonprofit to maintain one.

What are the qualifications to serve as an agent in West Virginia?

Individuals must be West Virginia residents. Business entities must be authorized to operate in the state. The agent needs a physical location in West Virginia and must be available in person during normal business hours. Notably, West Virginia is one of the few states that permits a PO box in addition to a physical location.

How much does your service cost?

$99 per year with no additional fees. This includes a physical West Virginia address, same-day document forwarding, an online document dashboard, compliance deadline alerts, and privacy protection on state filings.

What kinds of documents do you accept on my behalf?

We receive service of process (lawsuits, subpoenas, summons), official West Virginia Secretary of State correspondence, tax notices, annual report notifications, and all other documents delivered to your registered office during normal business hours.

How do I designate West Virginia Registered Agent.co as my agent?

How quickly do you forward documents?

Same business day. Documents received at your registered office are scanned and emailed to you within hours. They are also posted to your secure online dashboard for permanent reference.

Do you serve foreign-qualified businesses?

Yes. Out-of-state entities registered to do business in West Virginia need a West Virginia agent for service of process. We serve both domestically formed and foreign-qualified entities at the same $99 annual rate.

What kind of correspondence does your service cover?

The mail that comes through your West Virginia registered agent address should be legal and compliance-related. Service of process, subpoenas, lawsuits, Secretary of State correspondence, tax notices, and annual report reminders are the types of documents we receive.
